Hello GENU-UAW,

First we want to honor today’s celebration of American Civil Rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., by sharing a quote that you are unlikely to hear from most institutions who claim to revere his legacy:

“The evils of capitalism are as real as the evils of militarism and racism. The problems of racial injustice and economic injustice cannot be solved without a radical redistribution of political and economic power.” — MLK to the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) board on March 30, 1967

With that being said, when it pertains to the redistribution of political and economic power, our union shares a common goal with Dr. King. To achieve these goals, we have unionized, elected a bargaining committee, and now we must collectively determine our priorities for our first union contract. If you have not already filled out the Bargaining Survey, which we will use to formulate our contract, there is no day to do so like today! Otherwise, we would like to take this opportunity to invite you to our Bargaining Survey Party which is taking place this coming Thursday, January 18th from 2 – 4PM at the Renaissance Park building in room 956. You can meet some of our Bargaining Committee members, fill out your survey with us, ask questions, and enjoy coffee and snacks. Our next Bargaining Session with the university administration will be on January 25th, and your timely responses will better prepare us for these ongoing negotiations.

In Solidarity,

GENU-UAW Organizing and Bargaining Committees

MLK Day, Meet the Bargaining Committee and tell us your First Contract priorities!
