Hello,

It’s finally happening—we took the first step of scheduling our union election later this semester! Today, a group of graduate workers from our organizing committee went to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) downtown! There, we delivered the authorization cards signed by an overwhelming majority of graduate workers at Northeastern in support of our unionThis grants us the right to hold an election. It’s an exciting moment for us all.

On Friday, in anticipation of today’s filing, we delivered a request to President Aoun to discuss terms of an election here at Northeastern. While the administration reached out, they have not yet meaningfully attempted to negotiate terms for an election. Nonetheless, we are hopeful that we can reach an agreement with them and prevent any potential delays.

Once our election is scheduled, we will all be able to vote yes for our union! Once we win, our union will be certified by the federal agency, and Northeastern will be required to bargain with us by law. That will give us a chance to sit down across the table from them as equals and negotiate for our first union contract. As soon as we win, we will send out surveys to explore and start addressing many of the key issues we are concerned about.

If you have not yet signed a card in support for the union, please do so now! While we do not need them for the purpose of filing, it helps ensure you are on the voter list once one is created by the administration.

We will be in touch as soon as we get more information about when and where we will vote to make Northeastern a more democratic place for graduate workers

In Solidarity,

GENU-UAW Organizing Committee
