Hello Joshua!
Thank you to everyone who attended our bargaining session today as observers, both in-person and via Zoom. We appreciate how much you care about the bargaining process, and welcome your insights. As a reminder, your Bargaining Survey responses are the best way to inform your bargaining committee what contract issues are most important to you. PLEASE FILL OUT YOUR SURVEY BY WEDNESDAY, FEB. 28. Fill yours out here, and remind your coworkers to fill theirs out too!
This is a summary of our two-hour bargaining session:
- We rejected Northeastern’s proposal which you can find here. Their proposal was made without hearing the issues we are seeking to address, and therefore lacked many of the improvements that we need. We want our bargaining sessions to meaningfully address our needs and concerns, article by article.
- We proposed an article for the formation of a Labor Management Committee, which would meet regularly with university administration to discuss matters that are relevant to our contract.
- We proposed an article on Job Postings. This article is intended to make the process of finding and applying for jobs at the university more transparent and easier to navigate. We told Northeastern that the current process, which varies by school and can often be informal, frequently leaves graduate workers scrambling to find jobs for the semester and can put us in financial and sometimes legal jeopardy (in the case of international student workers).
The university has yet to offer counters to any of our proposals and has yet to provide all the information we need to draft some of our proposals.
As always, If you want to get involved in organizing and helping us win a strong union contract, fill out this form and an organizer will get in touch with you about ways you can help!
Solidarity,
GENU-UAW Bargaining Committee
